Bridging Neighborhoods

The site of this project will encourage a safe pedestrian experience, connecting the Port of Dubuque to the Millwork District and historic Main Street. These connections will help bridge across and under U.S. Highways 151 and 61, which currently act as a barrier between neighborhoods. The project will also create a transition zone, referencing both historic Dubuque architecture with contemporary new construction.

Expressing Mass Timber Construction

The new development will incorporate the use of cross-laminated timber optimized for urban living and budget. The mass timber construction will celebrates the history of industrial uses within the Port of Dubuque, including boat building and lumber yards.

Resurgence of Energy to the Port of Dubuque

The Stacks will help create a destination that draws both tourists and current Dubuque residents. By activating the ground floor with uses that complement the growing Port of Dubuque energy, the property will bring dining, drinking, exercise, retail and a variety of micro-entrepreneurial ventures to the area. The site will also allow for activity on the pedestrian level by creating active breaks along the long site with a visual connection to the courtyard.
