Fiedler & Timmer PLLC

Process
Pullback

We applied the motto of employment law firm Fiedler & Timmer, P.L.L.C. — “making the world a better place to live and work” —to its new office building. Top priority: helping clients, attorneys + staff feel comfortable in offices that reflected the firm’s success as tenacious advocates for fair workplaces. The firm had previously rented space. Needing room to grow, they sought access to nature, views + daylight, plus an apartment above for partner Paige Fiedler. Early in the design process, attorney Brooke Timmer set the tone: “We are excited at the idea of NOT having another BORING law office.”

Momentum

The client selected a visible corner site overlooking a pond.. The site-specific scheme divided the building into three zones: public, invitation-only offices + private second-floor residence. The central organizing feature for the offices became the firm’s “living room,” oriented to maximize the scenic pond view. Public spaces were organized off the lobby for efficient access from reception + offer limited views into the landscape. Cedar cladding warms up office entrances + wraps the residence. The exterior materials reflect colors + textures found in the Iowa landscape.

Impact

Settled into its new home, the partners at Fiedler & Timmer find their building truly reflects the calming confidence they offer clients + reinforces their commitment to providing a more-than-fair workplace. The office living room with adjacent kitchen provides a gathering space with flexible furniture so attorneys + staff can discuss cases, enjoy wildlife sightings + unwind at the end of the day with a glass of wine. Says Brooke: “Jamming out in my office and prepping for the day, I have to admit that working crazy hours is easier in this beautiful space.”

Respect
  • ""Throughout the process, Greg focused on finding out needs we didn't even know we had.  Then he delivered solutions. We love the building.”
