Public Safety Building

Pull Back

The community desired a public safety facility that would provide a symbol of permanence, security + pride. The orientation + approach to the building should announce the public + training portions of the project, while fitting into the surrounding residential neighborhood. Prior to design, the budget + metal building system were selected.

Momentum

Smart material selection saved money. Materials were grouped for impact so interior functions can be clearly identified from the street. Fluid design + budget interaction allowed adding a local contractor to the team to analyze the systems + building. Daylighting, solar gain, proper drainage + step-down massing blend the building into the neighborhood.

Impact

The public entry is announced at the corner by carving out the metal box back to the masonry office mass. Public events are held in the facility regularly without sacrificing the efficient layout of the safety functions. Operating costs are reduced with an efficient building envelope + geothermal heat. The building projects the care + public service the staff provides to the community.

  • "The team has been exacting to detail, timely in execution + dedicated to maintaining good communication. They have always been sensitive to our needs + project cost.”
