David Voss, AIA, LEED AP

Throughout his professional career, David has deliberately chosen to live and work in a variety of places to better understand how people see and experience their surroundings differently. He has practiced in Virginia, California, Michigan, Britain, Illinois, and Iowa. David’s experience creating sustainable projects as a licensed architect in Britain has molded his perceptions and attitude about how Architecture can shape our environment.

David brings his experience in large-scale projects as well as his progressive and sustainable design philosophy to the Slingshot team. In 1991, David received his Master’s degree in architecture from the University of Michigan. He also holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design/Architecture from Miami University in Ohio. David was initially drawn to the firm because of his ability to be a leader and the potential he could see to impact the changing landscape of Des Moines.

In his role at Slingshot, David focuses on holistic design and project sequencing. Through quality execution shaped by regionalism and endurance, he helps the entire Slingshot team do their best work. Day-to-day, David focuses on quality control and the technical aspects of project management. From interdisciplinary coordination to leading quality reviews, he is helping the firm embrace a mindset of longevity in both its practices and projects. Throughout the process, David appreciates that rather than chasing projects, Slingshot pursues meaningful relationships with people who may someday become clients.

When he’s not in the office, David enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, cycling, and relaxing at his cabin in northern Wisconsin.
